Vivienne Long Mccain

February 7, 1916 — November 18, 2013

Vivienne McCain, age 97, passed away November 18, 2013 into the presence of her Lord and Savior. She was born in Danielsville, Georgia on February 7, 1916. Her parents were Huldah Elizabeth Landers and Arthur Hamilton Long. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ross McCain, MD, and her daughter, Elizabeth Wilson McCain. She is survived by her loving family: her children, Kathryn McCain Kite of Atlanta, Georgia; John Ross McCain, Jr. (Jessica), of Alabaster, Alabama; and Arthur Hamilton McCain, MD, (Brenda) of Macon, Georgia; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Vivienne graduated valedictorian from Danielsville High School at the age of sixteen. She then attended one year at Decatur High School before entering Agnes Scott College earning a degree in Chemistry. Vivienne married John McCain in 1938 who had finished at Emory Medical School in 1937. From 1937-39, she taught at Doraville Elementary School and from 1939-1943 she taught in the Decatur School System. Since that time, she was active at Decatur Presbyterian Church, Agnes Scott College, PEO, enjoyed traveling, and was a devoted matriarch. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, November 20, at Decatur Presbyterian Church. The family respectively requests that as an alternative to flowers, memorials be made in her name to Decatur Presbyterian Church. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
