Voula Pefinis Kakunes

May 7, 1928 — July 14, 2009

Mrs. Voula P. Kakunes, loving wife, mother, aunt, and godmother, passed into eternal life on July 14, 2009 with Jesus by her side. She will be remembered as a loving, gentle soul with a devout faith in Christ who always put family and friends first. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Nicholas Kakunes; sons, Jim and George Kakunes; sisters, Sophie Kanes and Joanna Poolos, all of Atlanta; godchildren, Vivian Mihalakis and George J. Michaels; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Irene Pefines; sister, Bessie Strepelis; and brothers, Pete and Theodore Pefines. Funeral services will be held in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of The Annunciation on Friday, July 17th at 1 p.m. with Father James Verends officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Those desiring may send donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 1925 Century Blvd., Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345 or Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 4840 Roswell Rd., Bldg. D, Suite 100, Sandy Springs, GA 30342. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16th at A. S. Turner & Sons.
