Wanda Christine Mcelyea

March 31, 1923 — June 4, 2005

Mrs. Wanda Christine McElyea, age 82, daughter of Elmer and Margaret Fielden, born March 31, 1923, died Saturday, June 4, 2005. A loving Pastor's wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was an active participant at Briarlake Baptist Church. She assisted her husband of 63 years, Chaplain Homer McElyea in the start up of three missions including First Baptist Church of Eagle's Landing.  She was a talented pianist and organist, as well as providing musical leadership in the churches.  Wanda was a gifted artist and was a charter member in starting the Reach For Recovery Program for breast cancer survivors. She is survived by her loving family, Chaplain Homer C. McElyea; daughter, Rebecca Campbell and her husband, Ron Campbell of Hiawassee, GA; her granddaughter, Jodi Christine Hoover and her husband, Troy Hoover of Oviedo, FL; and their children, Ben Whatley, Joel Whatley, Reid Hoover and Bailey Christine Hoover.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 6 at Briarlake Baptist Church with Dr. J. Hoffman Harris, Dr. Tommy Ferrell, and Rev. Jack Chalmers officiating. Interment services will be held at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, TN on Wednesday, June 8th with Rev. Raleigh Brady officiating.  The family received friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
