Wanda Maria (Werbicki) Fortenberry passed away April l0, 2009. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Adrian Woodrow Fortenberry. Wanda, born in Brooklyn, NY, was the daughter of Raymond John and Pelegia (Jarosczewski) Werbicki of Poland. She was an expert seamstress, an avid gardener, and a consummate naturalist. Wanda's knowledge of cooking, needlework and nature was enthusiastically passed on to her children and grandchildren. Wanda and Adrian compiled volumes of genealogical and historical information, as well as pictures that resulted in the publication of the book The Fortenberry Families of Southern Mississippi, one of their most cherished accomplishments. The family will miss the twinkly eyes, the steady hand, the green thumb and the wealth of knowledge of their mother. Survivors include: Raymond and Sheila Fortenberry of Lawrenceville, GA; Regina and David Cross of Suwanee, GA; Andie and John Criminger of Sugar Hill, GA; Teresa Fortenberry of Clarkston, GA; Linda and Chuck Wood of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and Barbara and Ed Christian of Fayetteville, GA., 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, Apri1 12, 2009 at A.S. Turner in Decatur, GA from 6-8 PM. Graveside services will be Monday, Apri1 13, 2009 at Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain, GA at 10 AM.
