Warren Eric Whipple, age 52, passed away on January 2, 2011. Whipple is survived by his parents, Bill and Elizabeth Whipple of Decatur; sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Joe Broderick, Jean and Dennis Whaley, and Marian and Philip Rusche; six nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives. Whipple graduated from Druid Hills High School and attended Emory University, where his active involvement in theater productions led to a career in theater, including directing “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the Center Stage Theater. Later he directed summer student theater productions at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He worked for political causes he believed in, such as Greenpeace, the DNC, WAND, alternative energy and voter outreach. More recently he wrote columns for Creative Loafing and other publications. Friends and family will be welcomed to a service on Saturday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Cannon Chapel at Emory University, reception to follow. A. S. Turner & Sons
