Wayne Chester White

Wayne Chester White, 79 years of age, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 peacefully.

Wayne was born February 7, 1945 in Atlanta, GA to the late James Owen and Margaret "Peggy" White. He was the oldest of four children. Wayne graduated from Marist High School and went on to study at North Georgia College and Georgia State.

Wayne worked for Scott Paper Company as a regional manager throughout the state of Florida. In the 90's, he worked in sales at Dopson-Hicks Food Broker and for the Ferman Automotive Group. He later retired from Gwinnett County Department of Planning and Development.

Wayne enjoyed golf in his earlier years, loved reading, watching football and Jeopardy, and keeping in touch with friends and family. He was a member of the Holy Cross Anglican Church in Loganville, GA. Wayne proudly served his community through his work with the Loganville Lions Club and was an integral part of creating the Loganville Lions Legacy Club expanding membership to include women. He was honored in the Georgia Lions Hall of Fame, received the Legacy Lions Award in 2022, and carried the title of "Best Pecan Sales Person" in Georgia. He also spent the last two years living at Decatur Christian Towers where he helped to cultivate a community filled with friendship and joy.

He cherished time with his family including making his three grandchildren laugh and always sharing quick trivia facts at every opportunity. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth El Okby and her husband Wally El Okby, Melissa Perez and her husband Louis Perez III, Allison White and her wife Tiffany White and grandchildren Louis Perez IV, Alexander El Okby, and Lina El Okby. As well as his sister Selma "Sue" White and her life partner Kenneth "Butch" Asbell, Gabriel "Butch" White and his wife Patricia "Patti" White, James "Jim" White and his late wife Stephanie Brady White and their daughter Avery White and fiancé Kyle Harris.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 12:00 (noon). Family will welcome visitors beginning at 11:00 am at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033. A reception will follow after the service at A.S. Turner & Sons with some of Wayne's favorite fare.
