Wesley Harvey Puckett, 80, passed away April 10, 2025, in Fernandina Beach, Florida. He was born April 04, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia to Elmer Wesley and Helen Robinette Puckett and spent his childhood in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Wesley was formerly from Snellville, Georgia before moving to Florida. He was retired from Randall Bros. Lumber Co. and later from long distance truck driving.
Wesley attended Brainerd High School where he was a member of the football, baseball, and boxing teams. Before graduating in 1963, he became a Golden Gloves boxer and helped the football team to an undefeated season. These accomplishments created a special bond between teammates that, despite the distance separating them, continues still today.
Wesley eventually left Chattanooga for Atlanta where he began his career with Randall Bros. Lumber Co. selling building materials. After twenty-five years, he retired and started a new career as a long distance truck driver. Truck Driving would take him all over the southeast United States and provided him with sights and experiences that added to his storytelling repertoire.
Wesley was an ardent storyteller with interests so vast and varied, he never lacked for conversation. No matter the place nor the audience, Wesley had the perfect story or nugget of wisdom for the situation.
As a lifelong Braves fan, Wesley could remember players and games from long before they were called the Atlanta Braves. But his favorite memory was attending the game when Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's home run record. Wesley was also a passionate fisherman and enjoyed teaching the younger family members, especially his two nephews, who quickly learned to tie knots and untangle lines. Although he loved catching the big fish, his greatest joy came from the moments, stories, and companionship fishing allowed him to share with others.
To Wesley, family meant everything. It began with his daughter Kim, who was his greatest joy and pride. Later, he married Janet and her big extended family became his. Living in a big family meant there was often a new baby arriving and Wesley always looked forward to holding each one and making sure they felt loved. His heart was so big, whether a niece or nephew, child or grandchild, you never doubted that you were loved and there was always space for someone new.
Wesley's sense of humor, sharing of life experiences, and love for his family and friends will be greatly missed.
Wesley is survived by his wife; Janet, daughters; Kim Puckett Daugherty, stepdaughters; DeAnn Shirley Brower, and Kim Shirley Greene (Geoff), grandchildren; Nick Daugherty (Veronica), Mary Hannah Snyder (Blaine), Chase Daugherty, Hunter Daugherty, Jake Greene, Rachael Brown (Dominique), Eric Brower (Devanshi), Evan Brower, and eight great-grandchildren as well as his sister, Darlene Brooks (Frank), and many treasured nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Wayne Puckett.
