Wiley Shorter Ansley, III of Atlanta died October 16, 2024, at the age of 90. Born April 21, 1934, at Emory Hospital. He was the son of the late Hamilton Goss Ansley, M.D. and Dessie Kuhlke Ansley. He grew up in Decatur and was in the last graduating class of Decatur Boys High. He received a BBA degree from the University of Georgia, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
As an alumnus of UGA he had served as a district Vice President of the Alumni Association, served on the alumni board of the Business school (now Terry College) and served as a Distinguished Practitioner - Lecturer in the Business school. He was a member of Gridiron Secret Society.
Wiley started his career in commercial real estate with the Sharp Boylston Co. in Atlanta. He later formed the Wiley S. Ansley Company and Ansley Enterprises. He won the 1964 Alvin B. Cates award for the most outstanding real estate transaction of the year, when it was given as a statewide award. He was a charter member of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors, and a member of the Million Dollar Club. He earned the professional commercial real estate designation CCIM. He developed a number of residential and commercial properties, including projects on Lake Oconee and two ocean front projects on Amelia Island, Fl.
He served as Mayor of Decatur for four years during the time Marta was being built though the heart of the City and a revitalization plan was beginning. He also served as the President of the Dekalb Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Leadership Atlanta and had served on the Metropolitan Atlanta Crime Commission. He was a Life Member of the Capital City Club. He was most honored to be an ordained Presbyterian Elder and Deacon and to have served in that capacity. He was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church.
He was married to his high school sweetheart for 68 years. They enjoyed many trips to Europe and other interesting places in this country and abroad. The thing they enjoyed most were the fifty-one years they owned an ocean front home on Amelia Island, Florida and all the wonderful family memories.
Wiley was preceded in death by his brother Hamilton Goss Ansley, Jr., his sister Jane Ansley Stallworth Stillwell, his nephew Hamiton Goss Ansley, III.
He is survived by his beloved wife Dona Barrett Ansley, daughters Gail Ansley Aldridge, (Darryl), Sally Ansley Woodall (Oran) and Amy Ansley Keena. "Papa" is survived by ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren as well as four nephews and two nieces.
A celebration of life will be held in Kellett Chapel at Peachtree Presbyterian Church on October 23, 2024, at 11am.
