Wilfred Elmo Boykin passed away on July 15th, 2018, under the care of Crossroads Hospice in Decatur, Georgia. He was born August 6, 1936 in Screven County, Georgia to Miriam and Lloyd Boykin. He attended Oxford College of Emory University, graduating with the first coeducational class in the history of the college in 1956. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University. Mr. Boykin taught mathematics in the United States and Europe before returning to earn a Doctor in Education from the University of Virginia. He was passionate about education and taught math at both the high school and college level. He encouraged many students in their educational pursuits.
Mr. Boykin was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis Bazemore. He is survived by his brother-in-law Bill, Bazemore of Statesboro; nephews, Mike Bazemore (Sarah) of Bluffton, SC and Nick Bazemore (Jennifer) of Statesboro; cousin, Sam Mashburn (Diane) of Cumming and other cousins.
An avid coin collector, Mr. Boykin also enjoyed traveling and music.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 30th at 11:00 am in the Glenn Memorial Methodist Church chapel on Emory's campus. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Oxford College of Emory University. Gifts may be directed to Kevin Smyrl’s attention at Oxford College, 801 Emory Street, Oxford, Georgia 30054.
