William Alton Greenway

July 16, 1927 — November 16, 2009

Mr. William Alton Greenway, 82, of Tucker, GA left us on November 16, 2009 to go to the home in Heaven Jesus has prepared for us. He was born July 16, 1927 in Elbert Co., GA, the only son of Armond and Burice Greenway.  He opened Ace Piano Co. in Atlanta in 1948. That store burned in 1962 and he opened as Greenway Piano & Organ Co. After selling that business in 1970, he worked for Rich’s Department store managing their piano and organ service department for 11 years.  Mr. Greenway enjoyed restoring pianos in his home shop, especially the old player pianos and reed organs He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Craft Greenway, his childhood sweetheart; son, Ken Greenway and his wife Kris; their children, Christopher, Liz and her husband, Mike Stanton, Jenny; daughter, Kaye Smith and her sons, Greg and his wife Amy and their children, Haley and Tomy, Davis and his wife Holly; cousins, Leonard and Jean Buffington and their family. Alton deeply loved his family and was proud of them. He was a charter member of Briarlake Baptist Church, and a member of the Progressive Men’s Sunday school class. He was a member of the Tucker Masonic Lodge #42 F. & A.M., the Yaarab Temple Shriners and the Piano Technician Guild.  A Celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 18th at Briarlake Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Briarlake Baptist Church, American Cancer Society or Scottish Rite Foundation of GA. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 17th at A. S. Turner & Sons.
