Dr. William Baird Hudgins, Sr. died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at his home. He was 79 years old and was a life-long Atlanta resident. Born to Guy B. Hudgins and Ethel B. Hudgins of Atlanta on February 10, 1926, Dr. Hudgins practiced cardiology in Georgia for over 50 years at Grady Memorial Hospital, Georgia Baptist Hospital, DeKalb Medical Center, and the DeKalb Senior Center. Thousands of patients benefited from his caring and professional medical care for over half a century. Dr. Hudgins attended Atlanta City Public Schools, graduating from West Fulton High School in 1943. He was also a graduate of Emory University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. From 1943-1945, he served as a first lieutenant in the U. S. Army in the Pacific theater and continued his service to his country as a member of the Georgia National Guard until 1952. Dr. Hudgins is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Lois Hudgins; three sons, Bill Hudgins of Columbus, Jeff Hudgins of Marietta, and Jim Hudgins of Roswell; one step-daughter, Patsy Bromley of Atlanta; and three step-sons, Bud Bromley of Rancho Santa Fe, California, David Bromley of Canton, Michigan and Steve Bromley of Atlanta. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 23rd in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Dr. Frank H. Crumpler will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association of Georgia, 77 Collier Rd., Suite 2080, Atlanta, GA 30309. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033
