William L. (Bill) Burch, 90, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012. He was the son of W.L. Burch and Nancy Pace of Leary, GA. After graduating from Albany High School, Bill left Leary as a young man to seek his continuing education, first at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and then to the University of Georgia in Athens. It was in Athens that he met Betty, his wife of 69 years. As a student at the University, Bill was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and he graduated as a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1943. Soon after he joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II as part of the European Theater. At the conclusion of the war, Bill continued to serve his country through the National Guard in Albany, GA where he was a commanding officer. It was also in Albany that he and Betty began their family, having two sons. The family later moved to Atlanta where Bill was employed by Ivan Allen Company as an Account Executive. He remained with Ivan Allen until his retirement. Bill was a member of Briarcliff Baptist Church in Atlanta, where he proudly served as a deacon. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Craig Lee Burch and his wife, Anita of Alpharetta; son, Gary Carlton Burch and his wife, Glenda of Cypress, CA; sister, Shirley Mills of Bethel Park, PA; granddaughter, Pace Lauren Burch of Alpharetta; grandson, Geoffrey Craig Burch of Cypress, CA; step-grandchildren, Cam Perdue of Kennesaw, Kevin Perdue of Memphis, TN, and Emily and Lauren Perdue of Alpharetta; and nephew, John Allan Mills of Bethel Park, PA. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Bill Biggers officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Briarcliff Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
