William Brooks Elton

December 18, 1935 — October 15, 2016

William Brooks Elton (Bill) of Suwanee, GA, formerly of Decatur, GA, departed this life on October 15, 2016, 2 months short of his 81st birthday. He was born December 18, 1935 in Hazlehurst, GA to John Brooks and Martha Clark Elton. He grew up in Hazlehurst and attended school there. He graduated from Southern Technical Institute. In 1959, he and Cassandra (Sandi) Hood were married in Decatur and became the proud parents of two sons, William Brooks, Jr. of Suwanee (and wife Angela) and Dr. James Francis of Roanoke, VA (and wife Nicole). He was always active in his children's lives coaching Little League Baseball, Boy Scouts and the Decatur High Band Parents. He was employed by the Georgia Power Co., retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. After retiring, he and Sandi traveled the world -- the United Kingdom extensively, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Egypt and Russia. In 2010 he suffered a stroke and in 2011 they moved to Suwanee to be close to family. Bill enjoyed golf with friends and co-workers and was a member of several Georgia Power Ambassador groups.
Most of all, he loved his family. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, several nieces and cousins. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 57 years, Sandi, his two sons and their wives, and four specially loved grandsons, Chris, Nick (and wife Ashley), Jake, and Zach Elton, and a sister-in-law, Eulain Elton of McDonough.
The family would like to thank Benton House of Sugar Hill and Life Care of Lawrenceville for their care during Bill's illness and Hospice of NE Georgia for their support and loving care, especially Allison, Becky and Adama. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 939 James Burgess Rd., Suwanee, GA 30024 or Hospice of North East Georgia.
Visitation will be at A.S. Turner Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 19th from 5-7pm. Services will be at St. Columba's Episcopal Church at a later date.
He will always be loved and missed.
