William Coleman Marshall

It is with great sadness that the family of William “Bill” Coleman Marshall, 88, announces he has passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on August 13, 2018 after a brief illness.

He was born on January 21, 1930 in Tacoma Park, Maryland to Alpheus and Vivian Coleman Marshall. The family moved to Decatur, Georgia in 1943 and he attended Decatur Boys’ High, graduating in 1947. He attended Emory University where he received his BA degree in Chemistry and his DDS in 1955. He served 2 years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. In 1956 he married Helen Graham.

Dr. Marshall practiced dentistry for 38 years in the Avondale Estates area before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, the Decatur Dental Study Club, the Thomas Hinman Dental Society, the Xi Psi Phi Dental fraternity and an emeritus member of the Atlanta Athletic Club. He was active in, and past president of, the Avondale Estates Kiwanis Club for many years.

An avid golfer, Bill also enjoyed traveling, fishing and gardening.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, David (Kathy), Robert (Anna), Scott (Tina) and his grandchildren, Jessica Clevenger (Tom), Melissa Marshall, Jacob Marshall and Alexander Marshall, his great-granddaughters, Delilah and Stella Clevenger and his faithful friend, Patricia Moulton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Helen.

A Visitation in memory of William will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 5:00-7:00 and a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 16 at 11:00 am at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, 30033. The Interment will follow at the Floral Hills Cemetary.
