William David Skinner

March 9, 1923 — February 12, 2015

William David Dave Skinner, 91, patriarch of the Skinner family, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 12, 2015. Born in Mansfield, Georgia, Dave spent his childhood in Mansfield and Covington. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Leaver Graham Skinner, formerly of Anniston, Alabama; his parents, Howard and Bertha Smith Skinner; siblings Tom, Berto and Ray Skinner and Miriam Skinner Mitchum. He leaves behind his loving family: sons David (Linda Singer) Skinner of Miami; Steve (Sandy) Skinner of Atlanta; and Terry Skinner of Avondale Estates. Grandchildren Joni (Bo) Stuart of Chesapeake, VA; Neil (Lauren) Skinner of Atlanta, GA; Alan (Sandy) Skinner of Tucker, Ga; Chris (Victeka) Skinner of Roswell, GA; Kevin (Amanda) Skinner of Tucker, GA. Great-grandchildren Hunter and Summer Stuart; Eve, Anna and Wendy Skinner; Hope, Hank, Tate, Luke, Mack, Joy, Bella, Merry, Bo and Gloria Skinner; Olivia, Enoch, and Audrey Skinner; niece Gloria Brand and her family; niece Leigh (Thomas) Jay and their family; nephew Billy (Shirley) and their family; other nieces and nephews; close friend Sara Hood and many, many others; and favorite dog, White Dog. In addition, he made many new friends among the residents and caring staff of Arbor Terrace, where he lived the last eighteen months. Starting as a mail courier, he rose to become the youngest Vice President in the CandS Bank system and President of CandS DeKalb Bank, where he took pride in creating jobs by funding new businesses. He met his beloved Leaver at Northwest Bank while they were working there; they raised their family in Avondale Estates, where he was a city councilman, volunteer police officer and Kiwanis president. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. Dave and Leaver were longtime members of Belvedere Methodist Church and devoted to their friends at the North DeKalb Mall Walkers and Talkers. Though a man of few words, Dave Skinner spoke volumes by the care and kindness with which he treated every person whose path crossed his. His example has provided a loving guide for his three sons and their families. His services will be in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 15th on Sunday, February 15 with private interment. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur.
