William Edward Stewart, 91, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2015 at his residence. Born on September 16, 1923, to the late Clifford and Mary Stewart of Gainesville, Georgia and was preceded in death by his brothers, J.T., Henry and Clyde Stewart and his sister, Mary Williams. Ed, a Sergeant in the Army in World War II with the Engineer Special Services Battalion, built roads and bridges in China, Burma, and India. He was honored with the American Theater Service Ribbon, Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Ed began his career in construction with his dad and brothers in Stewart Brothers Construction Company in Gainesville, Georgia. He continued as general contractor and project manager for several Atlanta companies. Ed later owned and operated NBC Construction from 1985-1994 where he specialized in commercial and residential renovations and construction. After retirement he worked at Home Depot in Decatur, Georgia. Ed was an avid golfer and felt privileged to attend the Masters for many years. His children and grandchildren were very grateful that he shared his tickets but only after they had to listen to a lecture concerning proper golf etiquette before attending. Ed married JoAnn Carberis in December, 1981. He is survived by his wife JoAnn of 34 years, his daughters, Nancy (Phil) Davis of Gainesville and Cindy (Jim) Mayo of Weaverville, North Carolina, and his son Barry (Elaine) Stewart of Gainesville; his sister, Joan Turk of Gainesville, and his sisters-in-law, Aglaia Moraitakis and Eleftheria Moraitakis of Atlanta; his grandchildren Wendy (John) Bond, Blake (Alicia) Davis, Andrew Stewart, Brian (Abbie) Stewart, Zachary Mayo and Alex Mayo; great grandchildren Chelsea, Lainey and Ian Bond, Ryan and Bailey Davis, Madison Nicholson and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to Ed's kind and loving caregivers, Mina Augustine, Sierra Allen and Marie Robinson and to their caring and supportive neighbors. Family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Sunday, September 13 followed by a prayer service at 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 on Monday, September 14 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2500 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30345. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
