William F. Lawrence, Sr.

Mr. William F. ?Bill? Lawrence, Sr., age 90,  of Decatur, GA died December 11, 2004.   He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1938. He received his masters degree in science in 1939 and his masters degree in education in 1940.  Mr. Lawrence taught at Gainesville High School from 1940 to 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II from 1941 to 1945.  He was in civil service from 1946 to 1953.  He resumed teaching in 1953 at Fulton High School where he was chairman of the math department and retired in 1975.  Mr. Lawrence served on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Teachers Credit Union for 18 years.  He was president of Kappa Phi Kappa Educational Fraternity for 1 year and served as secretary & treasurer for many years.  He served as treasurer of the Atlanta Retired Teachers Association for 8 years.  Member of the Men?s Garden Club and served as a Deacon at Druid Hills Presbyterian Church.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Lawrence; son and daughter-in-law, Larry & Beth Lawrence, Atlanta, GA; son, Steve Lawrence, Cocoa Beach, FL; grandchildren, Matt, Greg, Stephanie, & Robyn Lawrence; great grandchildren, Jakob & Mia; 1 niece; & 1 nephew. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Druid Hills Presbyterian Church.  Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday December 15, 2004 at Druid Hills Presbyterian Church.  Rev. Mary Jane Cornell will officiate.  Interment in Westview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM at the church.  A. S. Turner & Sons
