William G. Halstead of Atlanta, GA passed away on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Hospice Atlanta. He was suffering from throat cancer. Mr. Halstead was born in Elizabeth City, NC on January 5, 1926 and grew up in Norfolk, VA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Mast Halstead; his parents, Claude L. Halstead and Helen B. Halstead; and his brother Leslie H. Halstead. Mr. Halstead graduated from NC State University as a textile engineer in 1950. He served in the US Army-Air Corp during World War II and the Air Force during the Korean War. Upon return from the Korean War in 1951, he married and moved to Danville, VA to work for Dan River Mills. He subsequently moved to Greenville, SC to work for Ashworth Bros and in 1955 his career brought him to Atlanta. In later years, he was an agent with Harry Norman Realtors, and then worked for Reliance Electric in Stone Mountain. He was a member of the Masonic Walden Lodge No. 274 in Greenville, SC. He is survived by his three daughters, Shirley Pate and husband, Ron (Norcross, GA); Anne Paugh and husband Bill (Goldsboro, NC); Donna Agee and husband Steve, (Buford, GA); a son, Curt Halstead; four grandchildren, Ben Agee, Kee Pate, Beth Agee and Tim Agee; his two brothers, Kenneth G. Halstead and wife, Lema (Raleigh, NC); Dr. Charles L. Halstead and wife, Jean (Charlottesville, VA) and sister-in-law, Mabel Halstead (Newport News, VA). Graveside services will be held in Norfolk, VA at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hollomon-Brown, 3600 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
