William Golomb

March 6, 1917 — October 3, 2004

Mr. William (Bill) Golomb, 87, died peacefully, Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Piedmont Hospital.  He was the son of the late Charles and Anna Todt Golomb of Allentown, PA.  Bill was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937-38 and joined the Army in 1939.  The Baltimore Orioles bought him out of the Army in 1940 to pitch in their minor league located in Aiken S.C.  When World War II started, they told him to get a job or go back in the Army.  He then went to work for the Georgia Railroad on October 2, 1941 and retired on December 31, 1980.  Bill enjoyed fishing and bowling.  Though his health prevented him from fishing, he still bowled two days a week in the Senior Traveler’s Bowling League & Club 55 Seniors at Suburban Lanes.  He loved the Lord and was a charter member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Decatur, later becoming a member of Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church.  He was a member of the Choo-Choo Bunch, railroad retirees group that met monthly until about six years ago.  Bill loved people and especially his family.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, George and Michael, and sister, Mary McConnell. Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Madelyn Farr Golomb; daughter, Pamela Adams (Ira), grandchildren, Jeff Kuzy (Melody), Nick Kuzy (Kristy), Chuck Kuzy (Charlene), Michael Kuzy (Denise), and Ashley and Wayne Adams; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; brothers, Sam Golomb (Agnes) of Fullerton, PA; sisters, Helen Kovach (Paul) of Norfolk, VA, Anna Silvius of Allentown, PA; sisters-in-law, Ida Golomb of Northampton, PA, Irene Golomb of Dothan, AL, Ruth F. Wallace of Thomson, GA, Carolyn F. MacKay of Reno, NV; brothers-in-law, Bob Farr (Mazelle), Dan Farr (Betty), both of Thomson, GA, Charlie C. Farr of Gainesville, GA; and several nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church, Avondale Estates, GA  30032.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Thursday, October 7th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons.  Interment will be in The Westview Cemetery, Thomson, GA at 3:30 p.m.  The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons
