Longtime resident of Atlanta, GA, Bill died Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at age 88. He was born in LaFayette, AL, February 15, 1930, graduated high school in Sylacauga, AL, then joined the US Army. After being discharged from the Army, he graduated from Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, MS, and went on to earn a BA degree in Business Management at Georgia State University. He was a career employee of the US Corps of Engineers in Atlanta serving the South Atlantic Division and after retirement became a tax-preparer for H&R Block. He was an avid sports enthusiast and participant. He played baseball in junior college and semi-pro for the Detroit Tigers, but chose college over pursuing a professional career in the game. He did play softball and baseball for many years, coached little league baseball and softball in the Briarcliff Community Sports program at Mason Mill Park where his son and daughter played.
Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother: W.D. and Josie Richardson; brothers, Melvin and Aaron Richardson; sisters, Mary Montgomery, Gloria Rawlins and Janice Roper.
He leaves behind his wife, Nyra Myrick Richardson; children, Debra Spath and her husband, Greg, and Jason Richardson and his wife, Tasha; grandchildren, Rebecca Farmer, Mary Chappell, David Richardson, and Kylie and Grant Egge; great grandchildren, Debra Chappell and Maya Farmer; nieces, nephews, and many more loving family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 10, with visitation reception following the service at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 2375 Shallowford Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30345, (404)321-1844.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shallowford Presbyterian Church.
