William Hiram “Bill” Camp, 90, a longtime resident of Decatur died Friday, September 18, 2009. Mr. Camp served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from February, 1942 to September, 1945 as a Tech Sergeant at Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho, where he trained flight crews for B-17 Bombers being sent to Europe. He also served with the 701st Bomb Squadron, 8th Air Force in Europe. In 1980 Bill retired from a long career of 35 years with Texaco as a comptroller. He was a member of the E.A. Minor Masonic Lodge, and as a Shriner he served decades with great joy in raising funds for the Shriners Hospitals. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Helen Goodwin Camp. He is survived by his wife, Mary Nell L. Camp; son, William Ronald Camp; daughter, Patricia Camp Olson, Mary Nell’s son, James O. Evans; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including his beloved nephew, George Elliott Camp, Jr. of Savannah, GA. Funeral services will be Monday, September 21st at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Rev. Lee Fullerton officiating. Interment Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4277. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4:00 TO 6:00 P.M.
