William “Bill” Hixson Breen, Jr. passed away Sunday August 28th. Bill was born in Atlanta on June 4th, 1926. After graduating from Decatur Boys High, he enlisted in the Navy. After his service to his country, he enrolled in the Georgia Institute of Technology, receiving a degree in architecture. After graduation Bill opened his own architectural firm and remained self-employed until retiring in his mid-seventies.
Bill was involved in many local activities. For decades he was an active member of the Decatur Rotary club and the Decatur Elks Club. He was a lifetime member of Decatur Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.
He loved the city of Decatur and served over 20 years as a commissioner.
Bill is predeceased in death by his wife Bettye Bond Breen and his son William Hixson Breen III. He is survived by his daughters Anna Armistead and Bonnie Creighton and his son Alan Breen. Bill was the proud grandfather of five grandsons, three granddaughters, six great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held at Decatur Cemetery on Wednesday, August 31st, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers donations in Bill’s Memory should be made to the Decatur Presbyterian Church: 205 Sycamore St. Decatur, Ga. 30030.
