Lifelong Atlantan William Jack Hamilton, Jr. (93) passed away Sunday February 3rd, 2013. He was born in Griffin, Ga, the son of the late William J Hamilton, Sr and Myrtie Bell Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton served in the US Armed Forces from 1941 to 1945 and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious duty. Jack was a Realtor and Mortgage Banker for over 51 years. Mr. Hamilton was elected to the City Council of Decatur, Ga in 1961. During his 10 years on the City Council he served as Mayor of Decatur championing an Urban renewal program and the construction of the current Decatur High School. Mr. Hamilton also served as President of the Georgia Municipal Association, the highest office a City Official can hold in Georgia. Mr. Hamilton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur and later Wieuca Road Baptist Church. . Jack is survived by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Merle Hamilton, daughter Jenny and her husband, David London, son, Jim Hamilton, and his wife, Jamie, and daughter in law Judy Hamilton, wife of Jack Hamilton, III, who preceded him in death. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons at 12 Noon Saturday February 9th. Interment will be in Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at A. S. Turner and Sons.
