William Leonard Perkins, Sr.

February 6, 1934 — April 26, 2008

William (Billy) Leonard Perkins, Sr.; 74, of Stockbridge, Ga. passed away on April 26, 2008.  Billy was born on February 6, 1934 in Phenix City, Alabama to the late Dewey R. and Hazel Byard Perkins.  He was preceded in death by his son Phillip Lamar Perkins, 2 sisters, Doris P. Richardson of Crawford, AL and Eden Perkins of Phenix City, AL.  A graduate of Georgia State University and Atlanta Law School, retired from Georgia Power Company with 35 years.  A member of Metro East and Metro Central Ambassadors of Georgia Power Company, was treasurer of Georgia Power Employees Golf Classic, member of the Grand Lodge, F & AM, Pythagoras Lodge No. 174 in Conyers, was past president of Midway Basketball Little League, Chairman of Rockdale County Water and Sewer Authority, member of  First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates, a deacon, and a member of the SOD Sunday School class, past finance chairman, was a substitute teacher at church and in Rockdale County school system.  A Mr. Fix-It-Up, loved working on cars and trucks with his boys.  An avid golfer with two holes in one.  He is survived by his high school sweetheart of 54 years Martha Raiford Perkins, 2 sons Bill Perkins (Debbie) of Lawrenceville, GA., Gil Perkins (Bonnie) of Ellaville, GA., daughter-in-law Lynn Perkins of Gainesville, GA., brother Dewey Perkins (Carolyn) of Social Circle, GA., 2 sisters Peggy P. Martin, Mary P. Barton of  Phenix City, AL., mother in law, Eunice J. Raiford, brother in law Tommy Raiford of Crawford, AL; grandchildren, Donna and Kenny Lowe of Alpharetta, GA., Scott & Natalie Perkins of Las Vegas; Billy Perkins, III of Lawrenceville; Katie & Brian Wood of Toney, Alabama; Teri,  Kyle and Erin Perkins of Gainesville; Jason & Misty Wilt, Brandon & Aaron Wilt of  Warfordsburg, PA.  Great-grandsons Bradley, Alexander, Dustin and Connor Lowe of Alpharetta, GA., Logan & Bradley Wilt of Warfordsburg, PA., numerous nieces and nephews.   A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, April 29, at 11 AM at First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates.  The family will receive friends at A. S. Turner & Sons on Monday, April 28, from 4 until 7 PM. Visitation in Phenix City, AL. from 6-9 pm on, Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Vance Memorial Chapel.  Interment will be Thursday, May 1st at 11 am at Riverdale Cemetery, Columbus, GA;   In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates Building Fund, 47 Covington Rd, Decatur, Georgia 30032.  A.
