William O. Dinkins

Rev. William O. ?Pete? Dinkins, age 78, of Tucker died Thursday, September 20, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jo Johnson Dinkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Malcolm Hitt of N. Augusta, SC, Sue and James Pinion of Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lynn Dinkins of Atlanta; grandchildren, Scott Carpenter, Suzanne White, Sarah Holden, Kaitlyn Dinkins; and two great-grandchildren. Rev. Dinkins was born in Augusta, GA, November 13, 1928, the son of the late Jim and Katherine Parrish Dinkins. He graduated from LaGrange College and Emory University Candler School of Theology. He served 40 years as an active member of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Rev. Dinkins served churches in Carrollton, LaGrange, Redan, Lilburn, Augusta, Ellijay, Marietta, Stone Mountain and East Point.  In addition, he was the founding director of the Potter?s House Christian Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson, GA.  His ministry continued after retirement through his affiliation with Harmony Grove United Methodist Church in Lilburn, GA.  He was a faithful member of the Harmony Sunday School Class and continued to deliver Meals on Wheels up until a few days before his death.  He never lost his sense of humor, which was expected by his friends and family.   He will be missed as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 22nd at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church.  Dr. Rick Long, Rev. Marion Pierson, Rev. Steve Wood, and Rev. James Griffin  officiating.  Interment Floral Hills Memory Gardens.  Members of North Georgia Conference United Methodist Ministers will serve as honorary escorts.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one?s choice or Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, 50 Harmony Grove Rd., Lilburn, GA  30047. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA.
