William Stephen Carper

October 21, 1960 — June 10, 2015

Mr. Stephen Carper, age 54 of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday June 10, 2015. Mr. Carper was a lifelong resident of Decatur and a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
An avid Ham radio operator since the early 1970's (call letters W4OIZ), Steve actively communicated with other radio operators worldwide. From an early age he was known for his ability and speed in sending and receiving Morse Code, at one time participating in a rescue at sea, coordinating between the vessel and the Coast Guard.
Steve had a deep love for his family, a talent for assisting the elderly, compassion for others and a kindness toward animals as he rescued and cared for many through his lifetime.
Due to a debilitating accident in his twenties, Steve faced severe limitations in his life. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Sara Shuler, MD of Neurology Specialists-Decatur for her professional care and kindness during the later years of his life.
Mr. Carper is survived by his sister, Malinda Carper Vargas of Dallas, TX; brother, Hal Carper and sister-in-law, Lynn Carper of Fayetteville, AR; nephews, Shane Morse, Craig Carper and Will Carper. A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 4:00 pm in the sanctuary of Peace Lutheran Church, Decatur, GA with Pastor Victor Belton officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to PAWS Atlanta, 5287 Covington Highway, Decatur, GA 30035. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory
