William Thibadeau, Jr.

August 8, 1947 — July 12, 2011

William Cobb "Bill" Thibadeau, Jr., 63, passed away on July 12, 2011. An Atlanta native, he was a graduate of Briarcliff High School and Wofford College. He also studied at Schiller College in Germany and the Goethe Institute in Atlanta. He had a lifelong interest in the German language, culture and cars, particularly Porsches. His interest and knowledge about cars was rivaled by his love of airplanes, especially World War II airplanes. He got his pilot's license when he was in his 30's and enjoyed acrobatic flying for several years. Bill was a residential builder in the Atlanta area and later joined the family real estate business. A quiet and thoughtful man, he touched many lives with his kindness, patience and generosity with his time and knowledge. "Call Billy" was a family refrain for help with any home maintenance need. His hobbies included canoeing, especially at the family home on Lake Lanier, and hiking on and around Stone Mountain. An avid reader and student of history, he also had an encyclopedic knowledge of cars and airplanes. Predeceased by his father, William Cobb Thibadeau, he is survived by his mother, Carol Williams Thibadeau and his sister, Jan Francis, of Atlanta , his brother Leonard Thibadeau and his wife, Carolyn, of Decatur, as well as nieces and nephews Paul, Dan and Carla Francis, of Gainesville GA and Alex, Catherine and Michael Thibadeau of Decatur. He was also preceded in death by his close friend Celia DeArmon, whom he cared for faithfully during the last years of her life. Memorial donations may be made to the Bill and Carol Thibadeau Outreach Fund of Glenn Memorial Methodist Church, 1660 N. Decatur Rd., Atlanta GA, 30307. The memorial service will be on Sunday, August 7th at 2 PM, in the sanctuary of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. A. S. Turner & Sons.
