Williamson Aubrey Taffar

Aubrey Taffar, age 89, died Monday, February 26, 2007 following a brief illness. Aubrey was pre-deceased by his wife of 45 years, Barbara McGaughey Taffar who died in 1987. He is survived by his four daughters and their husbands: Patty Patterson and Dave Bonar of Dover, Delaware, Peggy and Craig Wyvill of Atlanta, Audrey and Tony Stallworth of Greensboro, NC and Alice Taffar and Ralph Ciallella of Wall Township, NJ. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Theron, Angus, Paige and Lachlan Patterson and Andrew and Abigail Stallworth. Aubrey was born August 22, 1917 in Atlanta and resided for many years in Decatur. He graduated from Erskine College and Atlanta Law School. He taught English at Clarkston High School and served in the army during World War II. He became the office manager for American Security Insurance where he rose through the ranks and retired as Corporate Secretary for the company in 1982. Aubrey enjoyed retirement and traveled extensively. He moved to North Georgia and lived in Hiawassee, Blairsville and Gainesville. He was a very active, lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and elder at Alexander Memorial Presbyterian Church in Decatur. In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering his time to many causes, including the Decatur VA Hospital and North Avenue Presbyterian Church. He particularly enjoyed his work at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, where he made many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 2nd in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur. Dr. John E. Grauley will officiate. Interment will be at Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
