Winifred Brown

Winifred (Winnie) Calhoun Brown passed away at home on September 22, 2013 at the age of 78. Winnie is survived by her loving husband, George T. Brown. They were married in Atlanta at Druid Hills Baptist church on March 5, 1954. Winnie is lovingly remembered by her children Debbie (Jeff) Rupp, Gay Brown and Cherie Brown; her granddaughter Kristen (Kevin) Cooke and her great granddaughters Riley and Taylor Cooke; her nephews Steve (Carla) Calhoun, Tommy (Beth) Calhoun and niece Sherri (Morton) Boyette and numerous friends. Winnie was born in Cuthbert, Georgia to Jeffie Lou and Fred Calhoun. She graduated from Cuthbert High School and enrolled in the University of Georgia Atlanta Division, now Georgia State University . She worked at Trust Company of Georgia, now SunTrust Bank, Inc., where she met George. Winnie had a deep love of family. She enjoyed cooking for George as well as for her daughters and all of her daughters' friends! Winnie loved to garden and watch the birds in the backyard. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and had a particular love of the beach and Las Vegas. The Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel at Briarlake Baptist Church on Saturday, September 28 at 1p.m. with Associate Pastor Rodney Webb presiding. A reception will take place at the church immediately following the service. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 LaVista Road, Decatur, GA, 30033. A. S.
