Woodie Vinell Ward Berry

December 24, 1921 — June 22, 2007

Mrs. Woodie Vinell Ward Berry, 85, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Decatur passed Friday, June 22, 2007 at Peachtree Christian Hospice.  Prior to her marriage, she worked for Callaway Mills and Coca Cola in LaGrange, GA.  She influenced numerous children during the '60's and '70's when she had an in-home child daycare center.  Mrs. Berry was a member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years, holding her last membership at Avondale Pattillo United Methodist.  Previously at Columbia Drive United Methodist, she kept the nursery and was an active member of the United Methodist Women Agnes Long and Joy Circles.  She was awarded the UMW Pin of Distinction.  In the early 1960's Mrs. Berry collected a truckload of donated special canned milk from all over the southeast for her nephew, "Little Joey" Ward in W. Palm Beach who required it prior to his passing of a rare disease. She was the last of thirteen children and was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Joel R. Berry, Jr.  She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Riggs and her husband Steven of Lawrenceville, Mary Wolfenbarger and her husband Joe of Woodstock, son, J. Robert (Bobby) Berry, III and his wife, Michel of Stockbridge, and honorary daughter Suzy and husband Nelson Downing of Lawrenceville; grandchildren Chrystina Riggs and her fiancé Christopher Bishop of Atlanta, Brent and Danna Lacey of Colorado Springs, CO, Marc and Stephanie Lacey of Ft. Mill, SC, Amanda Wolfenbarger of Woodstock; Matthew Berry of Stockbridge and Stephanie Berry of Stockbridge; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Jayden Lacey of Colorado Springs, CO and Jacob and Olivia Lacey of Ft. Mill, SC; sisters-in-law, Grace Ward and Mary Ward, cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.  She also leaves her best friend and loving companion dog, Molly, now adopted by Suzy; Trixie left her side last year.  She loved flowers, gardening, feeding, and watching birds.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, June 26th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons.  Dr. Richard Hunter will officiate.   Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.  Those desiring may send contributions to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, GA  30096 or to your local humane society.  The family will receive friends Sunday 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at A.
