Zola Mae Mitchell

Zola Mae Mote Mitchell, 92, of Decatur, GA, beloved wife and mother, went to her heavenly home on Friday, December 30, 2016. Born August 12, 1924, in Winder, GA, she was the daughter of the late Emory James and Mattie Lou Wilson Mote and wife of 30 years to the late Samuel Curtis Mitchell.

Zola Mae came to work in Atlanta for the Federal Reserve Bank and went to night school at University of Georgia - Atlanta Division, now Georgia State University. She then went to work for First Federal Savings and Loan Association for 43 years before retiring in 1990 as Senior Vice President. Since 1954, Zola Mae enjoyed spending time at Lake Burton where she and her late husband built a cabin. She was a devoted member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women. Zola Mae will be remembered for her strong work ethic and her love of gardening, going to Sanford Stadium cheering on her "Georgia Bulldogs", and spending time with her family and doting on her granddaughters and her boxer dogs.

She is survived by two daughters, Samille Malloy and her husband, David, and Lisa Mitchell (Bryant Thompson); two granddaughters, Ann Elizabeth Malloy (Jay Vance) and Mattie Ellen Malloy Marks and her husband, Nathan; brother, Jimmy Mote; and many more loving family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Zola Mae was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Masters; and brothers, Emory, Jr. and Douglas Mote.

The family would like to send a "Thank You" to the caregivers: Phyllis Rivers, Tiesha Rivers, Ann Miles, Brenda Clarke, Carol Smith, and Michelle Young.

A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2017. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2017 in the Chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur. Interment will follow the chapel service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Presbyterian Student Center at UGA, 1250 South Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30605, or to the American Heart Association.
